Letter to Santa – from an aged-out foster kid.

dear Santa,
for many years now, since i entered foster care at age 7, i have asked you for the same present every year; a nice FAMILY. this year, i give you a choice from two presents listed below that you could give to me… and either one is acceptable.
i only am asking for one thing from the list. i know you have lots of kids to deliver presents to, but i was hoping since you missed me alot, you could deliver this year. i have tried to be good, even though i probably messed up alot.
please choose what you feel i deserve. i’ll be happy with either.
please Santa, i am begging you.
thank you Santa Claus

I hope nobody brings you number two for a very long time. You of all people should live to a nice old age and have a peaceful natural cause for a death. No death for LT!

LT,
I am sorry you are hurting.
I am hoping for a miracle for you… I wish I could offer more than that… Miracles are far and few between, but if anyone deserves one it is you.

Oh Looney, not number 2 for 40 or 50 years. I so wish I could be number 1 for you. I wish I could fix everything for you and let you feel the love we have for you. I know this is a horrible time of year for you. Hang in there, it’s almost over. Is there something you could do for someone else for the holidays? That may make you feel better. Hug your furry family!

Sweet LT – you are the mama to 3 beautiful animals; you have already begun forming your nice family. Soon you will add a human or two to your family, and you will have everything you want.

LT
Hang in there. I know it is hard–but you can do it!!.
Life is worth living. Hopefully it will get better for you soon.
I look forward to your post–you are so talented. Just think of all the foster kids that you are helping by telling your story. People are listening. Just wish that you would allow us to do more.

It seems like you got your wish… you have made connections to KC, Jessie, and KC’s dad (can’t remember his name) that will continue for your entire life. They may not have been around when you were little and adopted you, but they are becoming your family, and it’s clear from what you write about them that they love you.
I know it may be impossible to really believe that, or accept that it’s real with all the experiences you’ve had, but there are three people who truly care about you, want to keep you safe, help you heal, and invite you into their family.
You are living in their home..
coming to their “family parties”
getting comforted after horrible nightmares
helping you heal
spending quality time with you
being there when you really need them
forming close relationships
getting to know you (the parts you’re ready to share)
sharing common interests
knowing what’s important to you
caring about the things that are important to you (KC buying Harbor and Shadow bones)
trying to reach out to you
making you a part of traditions and rituals…
You are a part of their family.
I hope one day they get the chance to read your blog.
